“Angels and Demons” Movie Fans Flip Over Ambigrams

Posted on 20 May 2009 by movies

Fans of the movie “Angels and Demons” have dramatically increased the traffic to ambigram related web sites like Ambigram.com, FlipScript.com and Glyphusion.com after seeing the unique invertible word designs in the movie for the first time.

Jackson, NJ (PRWEB) May 19, 2009 — Traffic to ambigram related web sites has increased dramatically following the $48 million opening weekend of the movie adaptation of Dan Brown’s conspiracy thriller “Angels and Demons”. Ambigrams (http://www.ambigram.com) are word designs that appear identical even when inverted and are key elements in the story’s plot line.

In ‘Angels and Demons’, Harvard professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) receives a fax from the Vatican containing the word ‘Illuminati’, presented as an ambigram. Langdon turns the design upside-down and finds that the symbol is unchanged, an indication that it is a message from the ancient underground Illuminati organization.

The Illuminati ambigram (http://www.flipscript.com/illuminati-ambigram.aspx) launches Langdon into a race against time to catch up with a hired assassin who has kidnapped and intends to execute four high-ranking Catholic Cardinals. Before killing each of his victims, the assassin brands the chest of each of his victims with four additional ambigrams, consisting of the four elements thought to compose all matter in the time of Galileo – Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

Fans of the movie have become fascinated with the ambigram designs in Angels and Demons, and traffic to web sites dedicated to these typographical wonders has skyrocketed.

“We’ve seen our traffic more than double in the past week, and it’s entirely due to Angels and Demons”, stated Nikita Prokhorov, one of the authors at Ambigram.com, the primary source of ambigram information on the Internet.

Ambigram retailer FlipScript reports a similar increase in interest in their designs due to the movie.

“Interest in our ambigram designs (http://www.flipscript.com/ambigram-designs.aspx) has tripled in the last month”, states Mark Hunter, the President of FlipScript, “The Angels and Demons effect definitely hasn’t gone unnoticed.”

The FlipScript.com web site allows ambigram fans to can create their own ambigrams by simply typing in the two words to be used in the design. The ambigram design can then be purchased, or it can be used to personalize t-shirts, coasters, jewelry and other products.

Sources at ambigram related web sites have indicated that they expect interest in ambigrams to continue to be strong throughout the movie run, and into the DVD and Blu-Ray releases of the film.
