A new Tim Burton production (but directed by Shame Acker), 9 hits theaters this week. It’s a CG movie, but it was animated to look more like stop motion. The title refers to nine “dolls” that guard something of great importance. (You’ll see it in the movie.) The voice cast features famous actors like Elijah Wood and Martin Landau alongside the great Alan Oppenheimer, who you might remember as the 1980s voice of Skeletor.
The Story: When 9 (The Lord of the Ring’s Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

If you dig the designs, check out the Tim Burton’s 9 Action Figures Series 1 Case. The strange figures look like they were crafted from burlap sacks and the scraps in your junk drawer, with little zippers and accessories cobbled together from odds and ends.

While my husband I were in Topeka, Kansas, we went to see the movie UP after the races on Saturday. We thought about seeing Star Trek or Angels and Demons, but we didn’t because we didn’t want to wait three and a half hours and pay $9.25 per person to see either of these movies.

I’m getting about that age where I start to appreciate things for what they are. I’m no longer concerned about being "cool" or "hip". I’m not supposed to like Monsters vs. Aliens, but I found it to be an amazing movie. Animated movies like this are considered only for
kids, but that stigma is rapidly changing with the release of films in the same vein as Shrek and Toy Story.
Monsters vs. Aliens is in that category. Yes, it’s still made genuinely for children, but Pixar does a fantastic job of creating it so that you can enjoy it as an adult too. The humor is simple but funny. There’s nothing overly complex here. It’s just a very good movie. I would highly recommend that you see Monsters vs. Aliens with you kid. They’ll love it.
One thing is for sure. If you’re just going to see a marvel of modern technology, you won’t be disappointed either. The movie itself is visually stunning, but I wish they would have made it in 3D. That would have been the icing on the cake. Either way, Cake is still delicious. From the monsters to the shiny environment, it’s quite an eye opener.
The characters are all very interesting. The main plot of the storyline is Susan Murphy’s transformation from a hesitant bride to a crazy freak-like being, to a free drifting persona. The evolution of this character is extroardinary.
Go see this movie. You won’t regret it, and neither will your child. It’ll be a bonding experience that you’ll remember forever.
